The Problem

Humanitarian, development, and social impact organizations rely on timely, accurate data to deliver lifesaving aid in emergencies and targeted, inclusive programming for communities. Yet many frontline and local organizations face significant challenges to collect, manage, and analyze the data they need, especially in crisis situations and low-resource contexts. Access to reliable and innovative data technology for rapid survey deployment and data capture is critical for effective resource distribution, responsive program design, and real-time impact assessments.

The Solution

KoboToolbox provides a comprehensive, open source platform built specifically for collecting, managing, and analyzing data in challenging environments. At its core is an intuitive, multilingual interface and drag-and-drop Formbuilder supporting over 25 question types, advanced skip logic, validation rules, and survey translation. With offline functionality, data can be collected in areas with limited internet and securely synchronized when connectivity is available. Ensuring accessibility and adaptability, the KoboCollect Android App enables mobile data collection on common devices, without specialized equipment or training. The platform supports secure project and team management, granular permissions, and compliance with data protection standards. Powerful analysis tools—including real-time data visualization, filtering, transcription, translation, and qualitative analysis—enable faster, evidence-based decision-making. Users can export data in multiple formats (e.g., XLS, CSV, KML, ZIP, GeoJSON) for further analysis or integrate KoboToolbox seamlessly with other platforms via its API. These capabilities make it an innovative and reliable solution for humanitarian, development, and social impact organizations to manage data workflows from collection to reporting with minimal technical overhead.

  • Step 3: Configure your project settings and sharing permissions.

  • Step 5: Collect data via web forms in any browser or through the KoboCollect Android app for offline and mobile collection.
